MoveOn to Corporations: You Can’t Buy a Senate Seat

As $ 61 million in dark money pours in to support the Stevens campaign, grassroots group helps GOTV for El-Sayed; launches mailers, digital ads, phone banks, billboards, canvassing to expose the corporate cash flying around her campaign.

DETROIT – In the final home stretch of the most-watched Senate primary race of the cycle, MoveOn Political Action is redoubling its grassroots get-out-the-vote effort for Dr. Abdul El-Sayed as the Democratic nominee for the open U.S. Senate seat.

Ahead of the August 4 primary, MoveOn is launching billboards, a digital ad targeting young voters, mailers, member-to-member phone banks, and six volunteer canvassing events across the state to reach voters, including 200,000 MoveOn members in Michigan.

“Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is the real deal. He will deliver on his promise to get money out of politics and back into the pockets of Michiganders,” said MoveOn Executive Director Katie Bethell. “With working people struggling to pay their bills, Dr. El-Sayed knows that one of the best ways to lower the costs of groceries, healthcare, and gas is by stopping big corporations from trying to buy a Senate seat and silence the voices of voters. Our GOTV efforts will make sure voters see the truth about who’s running a people-powered campaign and who’s letting Trump donors and corporations stack the deck for them.”

To bring attention to the record-setting $ 61 million being spent by Trump donors, AIPAC, and billionaires to support Haley Stevens and defeat El-Sayed in the primary, MoveOn set up an interactive “money booth” game in Grand Rapids on Tuesday to invite Michiganders to grab as much cash that is being spent on Haley Stevens as they can.

As reported in Politico, MoveOn endorsed El-Sayed as part of its $ 27 million election program focused on winning back the support of the disillusioned and disengaged Democratic-leaning voters who didn’t vote in 2024. Like El-Sayed, MoveOn is endorsing exactly the types of candidates who can appeal to these “skippers”—fighters who will go to Washington and lower prices, stand up to Trump and the billionaire Epstein class, and push back against the influence of dark money.
